British Massage & Wellness NC

Touch was never meant to be a luxury. It is a basic human need.

Massage as a healing tool has been around for thousands of years in many cultures.

Touching is a natural human reaction to pain and stress, and for conveying compassion and support. Think of the last time you bumped your head or had a sore calf. What did you do? Rubbed it, right? The same was true of our earliest ancestors. Healers throughout time and throughout the world have instinctually and independently developed a wide range of therapeutic techniques using touch. Many are still in use today, and with good reason. We now have scientific proof of the benefits of massage - benefits ranging from treating chronic diseases and injuries to alleviating the growing tensions of our modern lifestyles. Having a massage does more than just relax your body and mind - there are specific physiological and psychological changes which occur, even more so when massage is utilized as a preventative, frequent therapy and not simply mere luxury. Massage not only feels good, but it can cure what ails you.

Massage Methods

Swedish Massage

The term "Swedish Massage refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart.

Thai Massage

Thai massage is more energizing and rigorous than more classic forms of massage. It is also called Thai yoga massage, because the therapist uses his or her hands, knees, legs, and feet to move you into a series of yoga-like stretches. Many people say Thai massage is like doing yoga without any work.

Deep Tissue

Deep Tissue massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fiber's of the muscles, tendons and fascia.

REIKI | Energy Work

A therapy based on universal life energy that serves to align chakras and bring healing energy to organs and glands. Utilizes visualization as practitioner acts as a channel for the life energy.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a form of bodywork that focuses primarily on the feet and/or hands. Dr. William H. Fitzgerald, an ear, nose, and throat doctor, introduced this concept of "zone therapy" in 1915. The underlying theory behind reflexology is that there are "reflex" areas on the feet and hands that correspond to specific organs, glands, and other parts of the body.

Mobile Massage

British Massage caters to the business professional who doesn't have the time to visit a spa or a massage clinic, or simply to the person who prefers to enjoy a massage in the comfort and privacy of their own home, office or hotel. This way you can relax and there is no need to drive to a spa.

Keeping the Lymphatic System in Order

Lymphatic drainage massage (LDM) acts as a detox for the body, encouraging the drainage of lymph nodes and movement of lymph fluids to remove toxins. This can be especially helpful with sinus build-up that needs to be drained for assisting breathing.
LDM boosts the immune system and helps to remove swelling, which is particularly beneficial for those dealing with lymphedema, fibromyalgia or any other conditions causing fluid buildup. However, it is not recommended for those with blood clots, active infections, kidney failure or heart failure.

The massage stimulates and opens the lymph nodes, which then filter and return the cleaned fluid to the bloodstream. This, in turn, promotes proper circulation and drainage of the whole lymphatic system.

It can also aid in recovery from certain surgeries by helping to clear out lymphatic fluid that has accumulated due to inflammation resulting from the surgery. Another benefit is reducing the appearance of cellulite and improving overall skin tone. Thus, the patient feels remarkably lighter and refreshed after a treatment.
